Replicating a magazine

As practise for creating our own magazine double page spread, we were given a pre existing page to replicate on Indesign. This simply allowed us to refresh our knowledge of how to navigate around the programme, whilst also making us familiar with the codes and conventions of a magazine.

Double page spread guideline

From looking at other pre existing film magazines, I have created a mock double page spread, which will be a basic template for my real double page spread. I have included common features such as: A main image, star rating, drop capital, smaller images, a pull quote, main title and a banner containing the date/magazine title/ website and social media. Once I have shot my film, i will then place the images into the document, write my own article and make some adjustments which will give me  a finished double page spread.

Practise video shots

In Luke's lesson, we were given cameras and had the opportunity to go around the college and get some practise shots. This allowed us to learn a bit about how to shoot a film more professionally and just gave us some experience for the real thing.

"And they all fall down" film summary

Film Summary

Character list:
      Mrs Bluff (Alice)
·                  Mr Ferral (Nathan)
·                  Mrs Lust (unknown)
·                 Archie (emman)

The film is set in the 1920’s and is based around the game cluedo, in which a murder takes place, however, we are unaware of who the murderer is. The characters consist of two couples, who are on a romantic getaway in the country, as well as a house maid.

The establishing shot shows Mrs Lust walking at a pace around the manor grounds, where it appears that she is being followed by someone. At this point, the music picks up, leaving the viewers anticipating that something bad is about to happen. The next shot we see is of Mrs Lust dead, lying on the floor in a pool of her own blood, yet the murderer remains a mystery.

The scene cuts to inside the manor later on that day, where the characters are trying to work out how Mrs Lust was killed; they are all sitting round a coffee table and each take turns of giving their alibi. Mrs Bluff tells her version of event first, explaining how she woke up and fed the swans, at this point Archie becomes suspicious and tries to accuse her of playing a part in his wife’s death.

Mr Ferral then defends his wife, stating that she would never kill anybody. He then goes onto telling his story of how he was eating breakfast and yet again, experiences just a normal day. However, Mr Ferral makes a comment about how he had heard archie and Mrs lust arguing, therefore pinning the blame onto him.

Archie gets angry at this comment and creates a huge argument between himself and Mr Ferrel, saying that he would never kill his own wife, there is a lot of shouting and suddenly both characters pull out a gun. They both aim for each other and lots of gunshots are heard, yet it is unclear of who is actually dead at this point.

Mr Ferrel accidentally shoots Mrs Bluff and then Archie and Mrs bluff both fall to the floor. Mr Ferral is dead at this point, however, Mrs Bluff is half alive and admits that she was the who who murdered Mrs lust because she was having an affair with her husband. Mr ferrel drops to the floor and holds Mrs Bluff in his arms.

We then get a flash back of Mrs bluff murdering Mrs Lust with a knife. The shot then goes back to the current situation in the room. The maid who is sitting in the corner of the room quietly then decides to ring the police.

As the police pull up outside the manor, Mr ferrel shoots himself with a gun. At this point, all characters, apart from the maid, are lying dead on the floor. The maid is the only survivor. The film ends by silent shots of each dead body on the floor and then cuts to the credits.
